Dupuytren's disease
Our Center has been the site of the Italian trial of collagenase (ASPIRE study), together with four other Italian Hand Surgery Centers it has participated in the internatonal Study POINT X and finally took part in the Italian experience "expanded access" (compassionate).
The collagenase is a protein with enzymatic activity, isolated and purified from the bacterium Clostridium histolyticum, which is injected into the pathological thickening of the present in the Dupuytren's disease.
This substance acts degrading type I and type III collagen that composes these pathological ropes that, over time, lead to the irreducible flexion of the fingers.
